If you sell online with platforms like Shopify then you’ll have heard of Worldwide Brands and marketplaces like Ali Express, but are either of them worth buying products from?
Worldwide Brands is a directory of about 8,000 certified wholesalers and drop shippers, with more than 16 million products for sale. Membership to the directory costs $249 and you can search through all of the products and suppliers in their database – but if you want to buy any then you’ll need to do that directly with each supplier on their own. That takes a lot of time, and although it’s probably worth it for the fast shipping and guarantee of quality goods, many people are able to make a good amount of money re-selling cheap goods from China – which is much easier.
You can buy these goods from a website called Ali Express – a marketplace of Chinese wholesalers and drop shippers that are not certified or based in the USA, but do have many good products on offer. Membership is free and most of the products are absurdly cheap – many even with free shipping.
So while Worldwide Brands is a good service, and probably worth the money if you have an established business or at least the time to deal individually with dozens of suppliers, Ali Express is much easier and cheaper and more than enough to help get your new Shopify store off the ground successfully – even in 2018.
